George.
sunday, todd and i went VERY GAYLY forward to see mr. george michael. i have to say i was super excited to go; i had never seen him before, but had wanted to for so long... i remember getting listen without prejudice - my first george michael album. yes, i knew his earlier stuff, but that was the first album i actually purchased. i used to listen to it over and over and over - i was in sixth grade i think. freedom 90, of course, was the best song on the album, but the whole album was perfect. i remember when he had the no. 1 song on casey's top 40. my sister and i used to listen to it every sunday on the way home from church - my family would stop for sunday dinner at some restaurant - always around number 2 or something - and my sister and i would wait in the car to hear who was number one. ahh... the good old days.

anyhoo, so the concert opened with him singing the waiting reprise on listen without prejudice. it's the last song on the album, and brings it to a nice close with some pretty personal lyrics for george. it was SO amazing to have him start with that song. it was a way of saying, here i am (the last three words of that song) and he freakin' belted the crap outta it. and then right into fastlove. this song was the anthem for cammy, ellie, elsa and i during my first summer at college. we listened to a lot of george michael and roxette that summer. i remember driving around a lot to fastlove. so it was really nice to have that kind of kick things off. that was also the summer that we used to get really drunk and do floor shows to hard day - another favorite george michael show. i was so hoping he would play this - but wasn't sure he would as it isn't one of the most popular. he did. and it was - amazing. in fact, every song on my list was performed - kissing a fool even - i mean - FREAKIN' KISSING A FOOL. there were only two songs that i thought we would hear that weren't performed - monkey and i want your sex. monkey's absence didn't shock me - i'm sure he's over that song - but i was surprised that i want your sex was not on the set list. estrange.

another nice thing - it was him and backup singers - and the band of course - but that's it. no dancers - no floor show. just a great singer performing his a$$ off. he came out for two - or three? - encores, and when he came out the last time, he said, ok this is the last song, so what should it be, and the WHOLE ARENA said FREEDOM. of course, he knew it was coming. i think freedom might be his most-recognizable song - well maybe faith. (he played that, too) he even sang careless whisper, everything she wants, no wake me up before you go-go (thank god).

anyhoo. it was an amazing show. there aren't many greats - i'd say he's one of the best male singers in the world, and he's still got it. i will admit to tearing up at one point. truly amazing (he played that too!).

That's great you had fun and enjoyed the show! I actually saw George Michael way back in High School with my church youth group. We were in the seats on the floor which meant that most of the time people were standing. You know how short I am - I didn't see much. LOL. But it was still cool to hear.
